A Cedar of Lebanon. In the distance there is a glimpse of the Mediterranean Sea. The grove consists of about three hundred and fifty trees, the tallest of which are not more than seventy-eight feet in height. In the midst of the grove there is a Maronite chapel.

Valley of the Nile and pyramids. From Mount Mukattam. Beyond the picturesque cluster of the "Tomb of the Memlûks" we see the ancient aqueduct stretching across the mounds of rubbish which form the southern moundary of Cairo.

The convent of Mount Carmel. Its terraced roof commands extensive views alonf the coast, north and south. The building on the left is used for the accomodation of native pilgrims, and is surmounted by a light house four hundred and seventy feet above the sea.
