Under the natural bridge, Lebanon. The stream, after passing under the bridge, descends the mountain-side through a glen like a huge fissure, and then dashes over a ledge of rock in sheets of foam.

The natural bridge, Lebanon. It is called in Arabic "Jisr el Hajr" (The Bridge of Stone). It spans the chasm through which flows the Neb'a el Lebban (Fountain of Milk), one of the sources of the Nahr el Kelb (the Dog River).

The gorge of the Lîtâny. The precipices are in some places nearly one thousand feet in height. The banks are overgrown with sycamores, myrtles, and various shrubs, and eagles build their nests in the inaccessible cliffs.

Rock tombs or Gebel-es-Silsileh. At this point the Nile is scarcely eleven hundred feet wide. The rocky barrier through which the river has forced its way is honeycombed with grottoes of the time of the great Theban dynasties.

Shoshone Falls, Snake River, Idaho. Main fall, 210 feet from upper to lower level; height of cañon walls at the falls, 1,000 feet. A number of minor falls, islands, and boulder rocks among the main falls add beauty to the lonely majesty of this scene.

The large stone in the quarry, Ba'albek called the Hajr el Hûbla. It is sixty-eight feet four inches in length. On the under side it is cut away all round, remaining attached to the bed of the rock in the middle along its entire length.

El Kûweh, the natural bridge over the Lîtâny. It is formed of a number of fallen rocks, which have left a passage of about one hundred feet in height for the stream below
