67 CE: Josephus, realizing that Jotapata cannot withstand the Roman attacks, contemplates flight. The citizens of Jotapata beg Josephus not to leave them to the mercy of the Romans.
70 CE: The Romans attempt to capture the Temple, but are driven back.
68 CE: Titus and Herod Agrippa II embark on a voyage to Rome to salute the new emperor, Galba.
67 CE: The Jews, elated by their unexpected success against Cestius, decide to attack the Romans at Ascalon (Ashkelon), but are routed by the much better-equipped and better-trained Romans.
4 BCE: Archelaus goes to the Temple and addresses the people. He thanks them for the respect they showed at his father Herod's funeral, but says that he will not exercise authority until his right to succession is confirmed by the emperor of Rome.
