Gateway to the Temple of the Sun, Ba'albek. It is twenty-one feet in width, and forty-two feet high. The modern masonry, which supports the displaced keystone, conceals the crested eagle carved upon its soffit.

Medallion on the temple at Rûkhleh, outside the south wall, near the east corner; it is five feet in diameter. The upper part has been destroyed by gunpowder. The neighbouring village is inhabited by Druses

Plain of Sharon from the tower, Ramleh. This tower, shown on page 144, was the minaret of a mosque called Jâmi'a el Abtad. It has a winding staircase of one hundred and twenty steps. Its eastern windows overlook the town of Ramleh and the plain beyond, bounded by the hills of Judea.

In the shoe bazaar. This was formerly a school, an interesting building now in a very dilapadated condition. The gateway, however, is still preserved.

The temple at Deir el 'Ashâir. It stands on a platform of massive masonry, one hundred and twenty-six feet long by sixty-nine feet wide, and about twenty feet high on the eastern side, which faces Mount Hermon. The village is inhabited by a few families of Druses and Christians.

Wallkill pressure tunnel. Side-wall and arch forms in place ready for concrete, with inclined track to platform on level with top of side-wall. Contract 47. April 11, 1911.
