He is best known for his novels "The Scarlet Letter" (1850) and "The House of Seven Gables" (1851), and for a collection of short stories called "Twice-Told Tales" (1837). His work often explores themes of guilt, sin, and redemption, and he is considered to be one of the greatest American authors of the 19th century.
