Summary

Noah Webster (1758-1843) was an American lexicographer, textbook author, and spelling reformer. He is best known for his work as the author of the first American dictionary, "An American Dictionary of the English Language," which was published in 1828.

Webster was born in West Hartford, Connecticut. Webster also wrote textbooks and helped to establish copyright laws in the United States. He was a proponent of a strong federal government and helped to draft the U.S. Constitution.
