South wing of the portico of the Great Temple, Ba'albek.  The floor of the portico is twenty feet above the level of the adjoining ground, and it is probable that it was approached from the east by a broad flight of steps
The castle of Mirabel.  Now called Kûlat Râs el 'Ain, built by the Crusaders before the year 1149.  It is nor a mere shell and encloses a large space of ground, in the centre of which stands a small mosque.
Bedawín encampment, Wâdy Sebíyeh, Sinai. This valley has been  mentioned as a likely camping ground for the Israelites, because of the view afforded of the summit of Jebel Músa.  There is no open space, however, for a great multitude.

A seller of lanterns.  In houses provided with latticed windows only, candles are usually sheltered by lanterns like those suspended above.  One such lantern, with two or three wax candles in it, placed on the ground or on a low stool in a central position, is considered sufficient to light a large saloon.
